Welsh Roots for MotoGP British Grand Prix Trophies

The MotoGP World Championships Octo British Grand Prix was held at Silverstone, the last weekend in August, and despite pouring rain provided a racing spectacle which delighted the crowd. At the senior age of 36, Valentino Rossi successfully fought off tough opposition in a thrilling race to not only win the Grand Prix but take the lead in the World Championships. Later in the day, the bedraggled UK fans’ staunch support was rewarded with Danny Kent winning the Moto3 race. Kent is tipped to become the first British Grand Prix champion since Barry Sheene in 1977.

Special EFX designed and manufactured the podium trophies for the Octo British Grand Prix, Moto2 and Moto3 championships. The trophies featured a contemporary design made from nickel plated aluminium and with the Silverstone circuit digitally printed in black. Each trophy was mounted on a Welsh slate base, in acknowledgement of the host of the Grand Prix which was The Circuit of Wales.

Kay Johnson from the organisers was delighted with the trophies: “The brief to Melanie and her team was to link Circuit of Wales and the Silverstone circuit in the design of the trophies, whilst envisaging the trophies being lifted by champions of the sport.  The finished trophies did not disappoint – congratulations to EFX for producing stunning pieces.  Thank you!”
