Solar Panel Trophy Reflects Friends of the Earth Schools’ Competition

Last year, Friends of the Earth commissioned EFX to create UV resistant outdoor plaques for its Bee World scheme. This year it was a trophy featuring a used solar panel. It’s creative team certainly like to pose an unusual challenge! The solar themed trophy was presented to Stoneydown Park Primary School in Walthamstow in their assembly, March 17th. The school had won Friends of the Earth’s Run on Sun competition, which was part of an educational campaign all about solar power and how it can not only save schools money but scarce resources too.

The school was not only presented with the unique trophy, which features a section of a recycled solar panel, but real solar panels too. These will be installed and make a significant contribution to reducing the school’s daily running costs. Stoneydown’s winning entry was a video montage of pupils’ drawings depicting every conceivable invention they could think of which could potentially be powered by solar and was accompanied by the pupils singing a special song composed for the competition. It certainly struck a chord with the public – over 7500 voted for Stoneydown.

Glen Colegate, Creative Director at Friends of the Earth was delighted with the end result: “EFX came back with a simple design utilising a piece of panel that perfectly realised our concept. It truly is a beautiful piece, which any recipient would be absolutely proud to display. I cannot praise EFX highly enough on this little project, thanks so much.”
