Expanding the Cachet and Influence of the Creative Review Awards

The Creative Review Photography Annual Showcase took place at The Design Museum, London, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Thames at night with Tower Bridge twinkling across the river. Melanie, Special EFX’s Sales Director, was pleased to be able to attend, EFX having produced the trophies for the Awards element of the event. Esteemed in the world of commercial design, Creative Review hosts an annual showcase of ‘the best’ commercial photography: judged to be the best at celebrating the power of the image to communicate ideas and stories in the media. The trophies were minimalist in style – a stylised profile ‘P’ made in clear acrylic and mounted on a contrasting black base, which was digitally printed in white, similar in style to the Creative Review Awards EFX also produced.

This year, there was added interest with the introduction of a Student Photographer category, which attracted a wealth of entries and innovative work.  Pictured here are the winners, Andy Spilsbury and art director Ernest Otoo, for their Tabula Rasa art project (as seen behind them). The work on display is then published in the Creative Review Photography Annual. Melanie discussed the cachet and influence of the Awards with artist David Scheinmann, whose work has been featured in the Creative Review Photography Annual three times in recent years, including this year. His 2015 conceptual entry is entitled 60’s World Leaders, which he explained challenges our collective memory of important political figures by placing them in a surprising setting. “Creative Review is a prestigious publication which embraces the very best of the creative visual advertising and design industries; the Awards also very much seek to bring the latest experimental and convention-busting work to wider attention with its non-commissioned category and this year’s new student section.”
